Week #4 - Friends, Teamwork, A Luau - Oh, My!!!
This was a fun week! We continue to build great friendships. By now, your camper has at least a couple special friends from camp. Maybe you hear your child talking a lot about a particular friend. These are great friends, and we are learning everyday how to build healthy relationships with the people around us. The socialization lesson was on teamwork, and two campers from The Undefeated Team (grades 4-6) just happened to demonstrate a great example. Please be sure to watch their video! The Wonder Kids (grades K-1) created an awesome Solar System on their classroom wall.
A Camp ESTEEM First - A LUAU!!! A Luau is a Hawaiian-style party. Our Luau was the highlight of the week! On Thursday, we learned several steps to Polynesian dancing - yes, the boys were ACTIVELY participating, too! We heard great stories of campers (boys and girls) practicing their steps at home so that they were prepared. And they were, indeed, ready! We had a special "tropical" snack, luau music, Polynesian dancing, the limbo (of course!), cool luau garb (see the pictures), and topped it all off with WATER FUN!
Focus area topics this week:
- Self-Mastery: I take care of my body because it's priceless
- Community: The Solar System
- Health: Food choices, Calories and Label Reading
- Socialization: K-3: I use temwork when I work and play with other people, 4-6: Teamwork helps everyone achieve their goals
REMINDERS:
- Please keep saving magazines and toilet tissue rolls.
- Remaining field trips: 7/9 - The new Snow Day, 7/15 - The Golden Rule School ($5 due 7/13), 7/21 - Mayor's Youth Emergency Training ($5 due 7/19), 7/28 - Pinocchio's Pizza Playhouse ($13 due 7/26)
Save the Date! Please join Camp ESTEEM for our "End of Summer Celebration" - August 3, 5:30-8pm. We will have a potluck BBQ. Sign-up Sheets and RSVP Lists will be available at the start of Week #7.
We are having so much fun! Please be sure to ask your campers about what they are learning. Your inquiries reinforce what they've learned - and give them a nice way to "show off" their knowledge! We are still registering new campers! Please send your friends our way! We love new friends!

Week 3 - Our First Field Trip!!!
We are finding our stride! Campers are getting used to the structure of the schedule, everyone knows the expectations, and we are holding each other accountable, just as responsible people do! Our community time (which is usually structured like a book club-style discussion after a short movie) featured discussions on: the importance of reading (vs. watching television), good work habits, making friends and using our imaginations. The campers are becoming quite the authority of these topics! Please ask them daily what we discussed during community time (and focus areas). They should always have something of substance to report!
Our first excursion to LSU Museum of Art! Week 3 was quite exciting! We rode a yellow school bus to the LSU Musuem of Art, and had lunch on the waterfront downtown! Campers recreated art (with oversized puzzles), did "I spy" (by searching for art in the musuem), and played games.
Focus area topics this week:
- Self-Mastery: It's OK to have different feelings
- Community: I am an important part of nature's team
- Health: Nutritional value (reading labels) and milk taste test
- Socialization: I respect other people & I am a good friend.
REMINDERS:- "Snow Day" on July 2!!! $12 fee due by June 28
- Time to refill Sunscreen (by June 28, please)
- Save magazines and toilet tissue rolls, please.
- Remaining field trips: The Golden Rule School ($5 due 7/13), Mayor's Youth Emergency Training ($5 due 7/13), Pinocchio's Pizza Playhouse ($13 due 7/26)
Save the Date! Please join Camp ESTEEM for our "End of Summer Celebration" - August 3, 5:30-8pm. We will have a potluck BBQ. We will have sign-up sheets soon, for items to bring. Parents, grandparents and siblings of campers are invited to attend! RSVP list will also be available soon.
Another great week! We are still registering new campers! Please send your friends our way! We love new friends!
